Golden Chest – Underground Mining
With the resumption of underground mining in late-2017, NJMC now operates two mines at its Golden Chest property, with all mined ore shipped to its nearby New Jersey Mill for processing.
Underground mining of the first stope (851 sublevel) on the Skookum Shoot has commenced. A portion of the Company’s labor force that was previously dedicated to underground mine rehabilitation and support of surface operations is now focused on underground production.
Beginning in late-2014, a lessee of the Skookum Shoot portion of the property developed a modern, state-of-the-art, underground gold mine at Golden Chest that produced ore through September 2015. In total, 40,840 dry metric tonnes of ore was mined during the lease period, resulting in gold production of approximately 8,000 ounces.
Following the lessee’s departure, NJMC developed an underground mine plan at Golden Chest, focused on unmined ore and from other accessible, drill-tested zones. The Company has since resumed underground operations, NJMC purposely took a measured approach restarting the underground mine and will continue to do so through the planned ramp-up period.
